Visualizing the Progress on the White House Digital Strategy

Now that I have found a way to score federal agencies in their participation in the White House Digital Strategy, and pulled the data I needed to asses the progress, I can begin looking for ways to visualize this progress and the value coming from the work.I'm working with an API Evangelist partner Concentric Sky to help quantify the progress of the top 10 or 20 federal agencies in the areas of social, data and mobile.The next phase is to develop an infographic and potentially other, more interactive visualizations actually based upon APIs and open data developed by federal agencies.Stay......read more.


All Data is Machine Readable by Default

After pulling together the data needed to assess the progress on the White House Digital Strategy, I wanted it available in a single data store, so I could be used and shared to its fullest potential.As part of the hacker storytelling process, I will be publishing a single JSON data store of all agencies who have published their strategy, have an active social presence on Facebook, Twiter and Github and have published 2.2 Data and 7.2 Mobile API iniatives as part of their digital strategy.Periodically I will update the JSON file, as well as keep archive stores for historical purposes.......read more.


Pulling Data Needed to Assess Progress on Digital Strategy

I wanted to showcase the best of the White House Digital Strategy, so I developed one possible way to score federal agencies on their progress.To execute on this, I will need to pull data from APIs, and other ways, so I can develop a story about the progress of the Digital Strategy.First I needed a list of federal agencies. I wanted to showcase the positive in the Whitehouse Digital Strategy, using the tools prescribed in the strategy--such as social, open data, machine readable by default and open APIs.To do this i needed to define, what was "positive" within the strategy.
